Self portrait in pastel. Looking up. Very quick but I'm quite happy with it.

Looking at Mats Gustafson.
A painting I did looking at one of Mats Gustafson's paintings and two development paintings. All in watercolour. When looking through Gustafson's work, this image stood out, and when I tried it for myself I found that it was an image I really liked painting. So I wanted to continue to look into this image but trying some different things with it.
Extending Specialist Techniques....
Three paintings for my Extending Specialist Techniques project. All three are self portraits that were little drawings and I blew up by photocopying them so I could paint onto them. They are about A1 size. The first one is in watercolour and the last two were done with oil paint. I really enjoyed doing these because I worked fast and just had fun with it. I'd like to try them bigger now, and maybe some more layers of paint.

Print workshop at Heriot Watt.
The second years had a chance to do two workshops at Heriot Watt as part of our surface pattern project. The first was a sewing workshop where we made bags. (Photos to come later) And the second was a printing workshop. I thought it was alright and it was good to learn something new but I think I still prefer the printmaking we do in class. Heriot Watt doesn't really interest me and I wouldn't want to take one of the courses there, but it was really good to try out new things and to learn about one of the options for further education after our course.

Extending specialist techniques.
These are two paintings for my specialist techniques project. I used oils on top of prints. I've been finding oils quite difficult to use, but enjoyed doing these portraits. I like that they are quite messy. The second image is my favourite. I think it worked well. I like the texture you can create using oils. Although they do take forever to dry! Which is sometimes a good thing, but when I'm trying to get them into my sketchbook it sucks!
I'm still not very sure where I'm going with this project. I'm going to continue doing portraits and playing with oils, and see where it takes me :s

Drawing this afternoon.
Started this morning and it looks like we could be doing it all day. I love drawing, but this is very difficult. Not very happy with my drawing so far. Hope it starts to look better soon!

Printing tomorrow.
Hmm...Don't know why this post was deleted. Will post it again.
And I can't wait for it. Really glad I was able to join the first years on a Friday. I want to do a lot more printing in my other projects, so being in their class for it is helping a lot.
This is a print I did last Friday, quite happy with it!

The Haining.
I really enjoyed our trip the The Haining. I got about 8 drawings and lots of photographs, but it's something I would love to do again. Drawing always scares me because it's something I'm not very good at, but the more I do it the more confident and comfortable I get. I was really happy to hear that we were doing a topic focused on drawing this year, I think as well as being an interesting project to do it will really help me improve my drawing.
This is a drawing I did when at The Haining.

Oils
This is the first time I've really experimented with oils, and I love them! They are so expressive, and I can't wait to try a portrait with them. I think that it can be quite intimidating using a new material for the first time, but once you suck it up and go for it, it's so much fun! I'm really enjoying learning about oils.
